F.T. Island‘s Minhwan and the crew of The Return of Superman have come under fire after a heartbreaking scene with one of the idol’s children following his divorce was shared.
The new series was advertised to show the daily lives of Minhwan, who recently got divorced, along with his three children, Jaeyul, and twin daughters Ahyoon and Ahrin. The children are well-known among K-Pop fans as they have appeared in shows alongside groups like ATEEZ, SEVENTEEN, and many more.
During one part of the episode, Jaeyul looked through the drawers in the cupboard, and as he took a photo from one of the drawers, he looked sad.
The angle then moved to a further perspective, and it showed the young child looking at photos of his mother.
Minhwan didn’t seem to realize that Jaehyul was looking through the photos with such emotions.
The clip ended with Jaeyul wiping his eyes after looking at a photo.
When the clip was shared, international fans expressed their sympathy for Jaeyul.
Do you remember the kids that ateez filmed with? Their parents got divorced ❤️🩹😭 I couldn’t bear the little jaeyul crying 🥺 pic.twitter.com/oOLuL35xTF

Yet, more of the fans were just angry at the fact that the children are going through a hard time amid the divorce and are being filmed when it’s obvious that they are hurting. Many hit back at both Minhwan and the crew of the show for recording the children at their most vulnerable to be used as entertainment.
The fact that they are filming those poor babies while they’re in pain doesn’t sit right with me at all https://t.co/aovyrRLWgH

Okay I remember Ateez filming with them and the kids are really cute, but why the hell are they filming their children crying and going through pain? This is fucking weird and gross. These kids suffering is not entertainment https://t.co/uJnxWbpWrY

oh god… and why are they recording the kids going through this? i don’t care who their parents are there is no “entertainment” to be found in children’s sadness https://t.co/GNOONO6Btr

My social work brain can’t comprehend why the kids are being recorded at their most vulnerable time in their life like ?? https://t.co/eaq9dYs7BJ

While divorce is something many children experience, they normally don’t have their reactions and raw emotions broadcast to millions of viewers.
