Dan Hurley is known as one of the more animated coaches in college basketball, and he was in championship form during Monday’s national championship.
The UConn head coach was ready to take on the world, even when the man he’s confronting is over a foot taller than him. Hurley was seen arguing with officials and, at one point, Purdue star Zach Edey over calls during the game.
Hurley has guided the Huskies to a national championship in 2023, and has them on the verge of another in 2024, which means he’s earned some runway with his antics.
What was he doing during Monday’s game? Here’s what you need to know.

Dan Hurley vs. Zach Edey
Hurley has certainly seemed to take exception to Edey. He thought the star center was among the Purdue players drawing fouls by flopping during the game, and he doesn’t care who knows.
Conveniently for anyone capable of lip reading, Donovan Clingan walked between the camera and Hurley at the amount it appeared Hurley added a modifier between “That’s a” and “flop.”

Hurley also got heated with officials for not calling an illegal screen on Edey, and the Purdue star appeared to take exception to the coach’s complaints.

And after a goaltending call, Hurley appeared to be pointing and laughing at officials.

Dan Hurley height
Hurley stands 6-2, making him a well above-average height for a male. That height helped him put together a standout basketball career at Seton Hall.
That height still makes him look small when standing next to — or even just near — Edey. The Purdue center stands a whopping 7-4, taller than all but one player in Division I college basketball in 2023-24. It gives him a foot and two inches over Hurley.
