The Tigers are in a new era following the retirement of Miguel Cabrera, focusing on their next generation of stars.
While the team finished last season with a 78–84 record, it was still good for second in the AL Central but Detroit missed the playoffs for the ninth straight season. Cabrera retired and is now the special assistant to the president of baseball operations. The future Hall of Famer has a chance to help the young talent on the Tigers.
His successor is Spencer Torkelson, who hit 31 home runs and got walked 67 times, leading the team, in his first full season in the majors.
“We’ve asked for patience; we’re starting to get rewarded with the power that we all knew he had,” manager AJ Hinch said via Forbes. “He’s getting more and more comfortable in the type of at-bats that he can put together.”
Torkelson, 24, is just one of the young guns the Tigers hope will serve as the core of their next playoff team, along with the likes of Tarik Skubal, Riley Greene, Kerry Carpenter, Reese Olson and Colt Keith. Javier Baez has had a rough spring, and Eduardo Rodriguez is no longer on the team. However, signing veterans Kenta Maeda, Andrew Chafin, Jack Flaherty, and Shelby Miller is encouraging if all produce.
Here’s a complete guide to watching the Tigers this season without cable:
How to watch Tigers games without cable
For those without cable, there are several options to stream Tigers games this year:
If you’re in-market, Fubo carries Bally Sports Detroit, the Tigers’ RSN, but blackout restrictions apply. If you are within the market for Bally Sports Detroit, you can watch Tigers baseball via Fubo. Those out of market will not be able to watch Tigers games on the streaming service, since Fubo will not carry the out-of-market RSN.
Inside market, DirecTV Stream also carries Bally Sports Detroit, as well as all of the networks that broadcast games nationally: Fox, ESPN, MLB Network, FS1 and MLB Network. These are all part of the service’s Choice package for $ 108.99 monthly.

If you live outside the Tigers’ TV market, you can watch games via MLB.tv. For $ 149.99 for the season or $ 29.99 per month, you can catch every game from every team outside your local market. You can also pick a single-team option for $ 129.99 for the season. Again, this is only if you are outside the Tigers’ TV market: If you are inside the Tigers’ market, games will be blacked out. Games will also be blacked out if you live outside the Tigers’ market, but inside the market of teams the Tigers are visiting.
Fubo is also carrying MLB.tv, for $ 29.99 per month on top of the Fubo subscription.
For nationally televised games, there are a few options, with some exceptions: Fubo, SlingTV, and DirecTV Stream all carry ESPN, MLB Network and FS1. YoutubeTV and Hulu + Live TV carry ESPN and FS1, but they do not carry MLB Network in 2024.
You can check if games are blacked out in your area using MLB’s blackout tool.
