No. 10 Duke looks to keep pace in the race for the ACC regular season title when it hosts Virginia in a pivotal ACC clash on Saturday night.
The Blue Devils sit just a game back of No. 9 North Carolina for the top spot in the ACC following Wednesday’s 84-59 victory over Louisville.
Sophomore center Kyle Filipowski — in the spotlight after suffering an apparent knee injury in last Saturday’s court-storming at Wake Forest — stuffed the stat sheet, contributing nine points, ten rebounds and six assists. Meanwhile, senior guard Jeremy Roach (19 points) and sophomore forward Mark Mitchell (17 points) paced the scoring outburst.
The Cavaliers (21-8) enter the home stretch of the regular season with their NCAA Tournament fate increasingly murky. Prior to Wednesday’s 72-68vwin over Boston College, Virginia had lost three of its last four games, saddled by an invisible offense.
But things turned for the better against the Eagles. Senior guard Reece Beekman, their leading scorer, notched a team-high 18 points to fuel the win.
