Takuma Inoue looks to successfully defend the WBA bantamweight title against Jerwin Ancajas on February 24. The fight in Japan airs on ESPN+ in the U.S.
Inoue has won five straight since 2019. In his most recent outing in April 2023, Inoue beat Liborio Solis via decision to win the WBA title. The brother of Naoya Inoue is the betting favorite against a former champion in Ancajas. Takuma understands that, but believes the fight won’t be just another walk in the park.
“I’m in a challenger state of mind,” Inoue told Boxing Scene. “Ancajas has defended his title nine times when he was the IBF [115-pound] champion.”
Ancajas turned pro in 2009. He had a 21-fight unbeaten streak from 2012 to 2022, winning the IBF super flyweight title against McJoe Arroyo in 2016. “Pretty Boy” lost the belt in 2022 when he was upset by Fernando Daniel Martinez. Ancajas last fought in June, beating Wilner Soto.
