Jimmy Garoppolo’s tumultuous Raiders tenure is coming to an unceremonious end.
The NFL suspended Garoppolo two games Friday for violating the league’s performance-enhancing substance policy, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, who added that the Raiders plan to release Garoppolo before the start of the new league year.
Garoppolo’s suspension is the result of the veteran using a prescribed medication without receiving a Therapeutic Use Exemption from the NFL. The league’s performance-enhancing substance policy calls for a six-game suspension when a player tests positive for an “anabolic agent,” so Garoppolo is receiving only a fraction of that ban for a different type of violation.
Garoppolo signed a three-year, $ 72.75 million deal with more than $ 33 million in guarantees with the Raiders last March but was benched by Las Vegas after the midseason firing of coach Josh McDaniels.
