Ireland began the defence of their Six Nations title with an authoritative 38-17 victory over France in Marseille.
The Grand Slam winners from the past two seasons met in a titanic clash but it was Andy Farrell’s side that came away with the victory, running in five tries for their biggest-ever away win against 14-man France, who had Paul Willemse sent off.
England were behind at halftime in Rome before seeing off a spirited Italy 27-24 and the margin of victory was even narrower in a Cardiff thriller.
Wales were 27-0 down against Scotland before an astonishing second-half comeback saw the game finish 27-26 to the visitors.
The Sporting News will update all the information you need to know as the latest edition of this cherished international tournament unfolds.

What is the Six Nations 2024 scoring system?
Four points are awarded for each win, two for a draw, and zero for a loss — but there are some bonus points up for grabs.
If a team scores four tries or more in a game, they will be awarded a bonus point. Additionally, losing teams are awarded a bonus point if their margin of defeat is seven points or fewer.
This means a winning team could take home either four or five points, while a losing team could earn zero, one or two.
What is a Grand Slam in Six Nations?
There is another means of getting some bonus points on the board. If a team wins all five of their matches, thereby completing what is known as a ‘Grand Slam’, then they are awarded three extra points. This has been achieved in 12 of the previous 22 editions of the Six Nations.
In 2023, Ireland finished top of the standings on 27 points, having won all of their matches and earned seven bonus points by achieving the Grand Slam and via the try-scoring reward system.
Six Nations 2024 prize money
As was the case in 2023, the teams will divide a prize pot of £16.5 million. The winning nation is guaranteed £5m, with prize money diminishing as the positions drop and concluding with £1m for the sixth-placed team.
Six Nations 2024 guaranteed prize money
Winner: £5m
Runner-up: £3.5m
Third place: £2.5m
Fourth place: £2m
Fifth place: £1.5m
Sixth place: £1m
That accounts for £15.5 of the prize pot. The remaining £1m is reserved as a Grand Slam bonus if a team completes the clean sweep. If there is no Grand Slam, that prize money is split equally (£200,000) each between the remaining five nations.
