The Raiders and Chargers have slim, but not impossible, odds to make the playoffs this season. With four weeks left and each team sitting at 5-8, a win on Thursday night would offer a little bit of hope for the final month of the 2023 season.
Neither team enters the primetime matchup very healthy, though. The Raiders might not have running back Josh Jacobs, and the Chargers definitely won’t have quarterback Justin Herbert or wide receiver Keenan Allen. All three players are crucial pieces of their offensive units, and their absences will dramatically alter the game plans.
The Chargers will trot out fifth-year backup Easton Stick to start under center, while the Raiders will go to rookie Aidan O’Connell despite a middling three-week stretch for Las Vegas.
With both teams banged up, the defenses could rule the day. Raiders edge rusher Maxx Crosby has four sacks in the past three weeks and a career-high 13.5 on the season. Chargers edge rusher Khalil Mack, meanwhile, leads the NFL with 15 sacks and has tallied six in the past four weeks. Both are menacing terrors on the defensive line and could wreak havoc against Stick and O’Connell.
