The final game of the 2024 NCAA women’s basketball tournament comes down to one of the greatest basketball players to grace the court and a team that has no blemishes yet on the season.
A champion will be crowned Sunday afternoon, as Caitlin Clark and Iowa go up against undefeated South Carolina in the national championship.
The 2023-24 season has been one for the ages. The women’s game has risen in popularity thanks to the star power grabbing the headlines. But all good things must come to an end, and Sunday’s finale in Cleveland marks what should be a sensational cherry on top of a spectacular year.
For Iowa, the Hawkeyes have a chance to bring the program its first-ever national title. Clark & Co. fell just short in 2023, losing to LSU in the title game, but are back for redemption in 2024. Clark has built up an immaculate collegiate résumé, but a national championship is the one thing missing from her illustrious list.
On the other side, Dawn Staley and the Gamecocks have a chance at history of their own. South Carolina brings its perfect record into Sunday’s championship game, as the team is aiming to become the 10th team ever to complete an undefeated season in women’s college basketball. Led by the dominant Kamilla Cardoso, the Gamecocks have a shot at winning their second title in three seasons after bringing home the trophy in 2022.
All that is left is for the two sides to take the court and battle it out for the right to be named 2024 NCAA champions.
