K-Pop soloist Somi has gained backlash after her recent announcement.
On March 27, Somi revealed the creation of her new beauty makeup brand called GLYF.
In particular, in videos, Somi revealed one of her first products, a highlighter palette.
She even showed herself actually using the product, which was four different colors of highlighter in a clear case.
While the videos and promotions gained attention from fans worldwide, Korean netizens particularly criticized the announcements because of the price. According to the post, netizens pointed out that the palette itself cost ₩43,000 KRW (about $ 31.90 USD). While it’s not unusual for celebrity makeup items to be costly, netizens couldn’t believe the price.
In particular, after seeing the design of the quad palette, many thought it was way too expensive, pointing out how basic the case was and that it just seemed like any budget makeup brand you could get from smaller stores.
- I wouldn’t buy it even if you told me it was ₩20,000 KRW (about $ 14.80 USD).
- I’d hesitate to buy it even if you told me it was ₩20,000 KRW (about $ 14.80 USD).
- This is seriously not it.
- And this is why I’ve decided to buy Dior.
- The highlighter doesn’t seem bad, but they should have focused on the case. All the foreign celebs put a lot of attention to the case/
- People say that the beauty industry is really profitable, and now it seems everyone is joining the industry… but the case is really…
- The case is so cheap… they didn’t make their own but white labeled it.
Even international netizens who found out about the prices thought it was surprising, especially as Korea is known for being affordable and high-quality.
