Netizens believe that deepfakes are becoming a curse. A deepfake is a video of a person in which their face or body has been altered so that they appear to be someone else and have been used maliciously or to spread false information. Within the past few months, many have been spread across social media, featuring Korean celebrities.

Recently, a photo of an alleged fan call with ITZY‘s Yeji has gained criticism because of the new “trend.”
On social media, a photo has circulated from a recent fan call with the idol. In the photo, netizens believed that the OP shared a deepfake video of the idol doing a dance challenge. While it looked a lot like Yeji, it was actually edited.
While the original tweet has been deleted, netizens couldn’t hide their anger at how inappropriate it was to show a deepfake to an idol. Although netizens claimed that Yeji was impressed by it, they still thought it was wrong and showcased that AI is going too far when it comes to respecting idols.
