BLACKSWAN member Fatou recently addressed the speculations about her copying YG Entertainment’s freshest girl group, BABYMONSTER.
On December 8, Fatou released her first mixtape EP, Letter 1 – Adaeh. The record has received enthusiastic appreciation from listeners as the rapper showcased her impressive skills throughout the five tracks.
However, the title track “Adaeh” has seen some mild controversy, as many noticed that the song kicks off with the same instrumental as that of BABYMONSTER’s title track “Batter Off.”
A handful of people have tried to accuse the BLACKSWAN leader of “plagiarising” BABYMONSTER, and it was noticed by her during a recent live broadcast on TikTok. But in response, she gave a straightforward yet sassy answer.
Fatou replied that she and her producers sampled a different track, and the same track was used by BABYMONSTER’s producers in their debut song. She has been working on the mixtape since a year ago, and the choice to use the sample had no connection to the YG girl group whatsoever. Fatou sarcastically addressed the haters, “Please have respect for yourself, come on…Like you gotta know how these things work.”

Fans praised Fatou’s straightforward attitude in dealing with the question and for highlighting how baseless some plagiarism accusations in the K-Pop community could be.
Clock it mother. Like how is she gonna sample something that didn’t exist when she recorded the song lmfao. They act like batter up didn’t come out 3 days prior to her official mixtape announcement https://t.co/UbImeecscr pic.twitter.com/SOsAzdYMbE

I love how she doesn’t tolerate any disrespect or bullshit that comes her way. It’s actually refreshing to see an idol who checks folks when they try to play in their face. https://t.co/YPViMm5cNb

At this point I don’t think the people screaming everything is plagiarized even actually know what plagiarism means https://t.co/BbXtOb72gT
