Han Sunhwa is facing massive backlash.
On September 11, Han Sunhwa’s YouTube channel uploaded a video. In the video, Lee Jun Seok appears as the featured guest. Lee Jun Seok is a controversial Korean politician and former mastermind of the country’s ruling conservative party. He was ousted after being alleged to have frequented a brothel and is currently the head of the Reform Party.
During the episode, Han Sunhwa disturbingly asks if she could call the politician “Oppa.” The idol then seemingly begged for the politician to address her informally. When the politician answered by informally calling her by her name, the idol then bizarrely answered “My heart just fluttered.” She then responded, “Jun Seok oppa, thank you for coming on the show.”
The two then spoke about how many views this video might gain, before the politician suddenly declared, “Let’s aim for 3 million views, bring me some alcohol.” For context, in Korea, a woman being asked to bring, pour, or drink alcohol by a man, who isn’t the woman’s family member, friend, or close acquaintance, is taboo and considered extremely disrespectful. This is mainly because the image harkens back to Korean prostitutes. Although it isn’t clear if the politician was ordering Han Sunhwa, it makes little difference as the politician’s tone and mannerism seemed as if he was at a room salon.
The video has since gone viral, with many Koreans expressing pure disgust.
- “Ah, f*ck…”
- “This is what her image originally was, lol. She hid her personality behind her acting well.”
- “She must have gone insane. I know that I don’t like her.”
- “They are perfect for one another.”
- “This is worse than any other scandal. F*cking Lee Jun Seok.”
- “Why was she involved in another scandal? I’m asking because I’ve seen others say that she hasn’t changed.”
- “They look good together, lol.”
- “What’s this? Is she roleplaying as a prostitute?”
- “Wow… Just looking at the photos makes me want to throw up.”
- “They do have incredible chemistry.”
Meanwhile, the controversial YouTube video has since been taken down.
