While the group ultimately was affected by controversy, there is no denying that FIFTY FIFTY had the viral success other companies dreamed of. The group’s “Cupid” soared to amazing heights, especially for a girl group under a smaller company.
As companies hope for their artists to have a big break, one company is currently being called out for attempting to use FIFTY FIFTY and create a “fake virality” for their group.
The boy group 82MAJOR debuted in October 2023 under Great M Entertainment as the label’s first group in general.
Since then, they have made one comeback, releasing their first mini-album, Beat By 82, in late April. The album features the title track, “Choke,” which was later released as a “sped up” version.
Recently, a viral online post about 82MAJOR caught the attention of netizens. Sitting at over 24 thousand views, a post title “The rookie boy group topped the U.S. radio charts after FIFTY FIFTY’s success,” talks about the group topping a “U.S radio chart.”
The post includes a chart listing shared by Digital Radio Tracker that shows the group’s “Choke” ranked at number 1.
While the group did rank number 1 and it is an achievement, the title is misleading.
DRT monitors radio stations globally, not just in the United States as the title suggests. Additionally, the chart appears to be for radio stations considered “Independent” or Indie, as opposed to DRT’s TOP 200 chart.
Many netizens have accused Great M Entertainment of creating the post itself in order to create “fake virality” and attaching FIFTY FIFTY’s name for “mediaplay.”
On the other hand, it did introduce the group to some new listeners who had not previously heard of them before.
