Miki Sudo world record: Women's champion breaks her own mark at 2024 Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest

Miki Sudo remains on top of the hot dog eating world, and she’s extended her lead with a new world record.

The reigning champion won her 10th Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest at the 2024 event, slamming 51 hot dogs in 10 minutes. She beat her own previous record of 48.5 hot dogs, set in 2020. Sudo downed 39.5 hot dogs in last year’s contest.

Sudo has won 10 of the last 11 competitions dating back to her 2014 debut. She only did not win in 2021, when she did not participate due to pregnancy.

Sudo, who will turn 39 later this month, outlasted all her competitors. Mayoi Ebihara keptpace with Sudo early on, trailing 22-18 at one point. Sudo’s stamina was just too much to handle, however.

The 10-time champion extended her lead over time, pounding more and more hot dogs as her opponents slowed down. Ebihara was still impressive nonetheless. She finished in second place with 37 hot dogs, and Sudo credited her for the extra motivation.

“So much of this is thanks to Mayoi Ebihara who was pushing me so much,” Sudo said. “Honestly, I prepared even more because I knew she was going to bring it.”

Sudo claimed “we’re only going up from here” and said she will back back next year for her chance at earning an 11th title.
