The Arizona Cardinals will go on the road to face the Dallas Cowboys for Week 9’s “Monday Night Football.” Kickoff from AT&T Stadium is set for 8:15 p.m. ET with broadcasts on both ESPN and ABC.
The Cardinals head into the contest with a 2-5 record. Arizona won the first two games of its season, but has now lost five straight. Part of the problem has been injuries to the offense, and Week 9 will be no different. Starting quarterback Kyler Murray is expected to be active, but only in a backup role. Jacoby Brissett gets another start as Murray continues to deal with a foot injury, but the starter will apparently still “have a role,” per head coach Jonathan Gannon.
The Cowboys have alternated decisions all season and can’t string together any momentum. Dallas enters the game with a 3-4-1 record, coming off a 44-24 loss to the Denver Broncos. If the pattern maintains, the Cowboys are in line for a Week 9 win. Dallas will have to make sure it doesn’t look past Arizona to its bye week in Week 10.

Second Quarter
TOUCHDOWN — Cardinals 10, Cowboys 0
8:57 p.m. — After the break, Demercado ran right up the middle for a gain of 16. Brissett then found Harrison Jr. for a gain of seven. Demercado got stopped after a two-yard gain, bringing up third and short. Knight ran to the left and used about all the field he had to get around the edge for a first down.
Arizona gets a new set of downs on the four-yard line. Brissett hit a slanting Harrison Jr. for the touchdown.

First Quarter
8:49 p.m. — Demercado picked up six yards on Arizona’s first play of the drive, but Brissett was sacked for a loss of 10 on second down.

Facing another third and long, Brissett found Harrison Jr. for a gain of 20. This brought up the end of the quarter.
8:44 p.m. — Williams begins Dallas’ second drive with a three-yard carry. Prescott then missed KaVontae Turpin on second down. He hit Lamb for the first down, but it was called back due to holding. Prescott then tried to hit Pickens, but his arm was hit when he threw it and it luckily fell to the turf.

The Cowboys punted, but not after a false start pushed them further back.
FIELD GOAL — Cardinals 3, Cowboys 0
8:37 p.m. — Jacoby Brissett was hit as he threw on the first play for Arizona. Emeri Demercado picked up two on second down bringing up a third and long. Brissett found Marvin Harrison Jr. for an 18-yard gain.
With the fresh set of downs, the Arizona quarterback missed McBride and Michael Wilson on back-to-back plays for another third and long. Brisett hit Harrison Jr. for a 15-yard gain, with the Cardinals declining an offside penalty in the process.
The quarterback missed Harrison on first down and then checked down to Wilson for a gain of four. Three straight third and longs for Arizona, and this time, the Cardinals converted thanks to a defensive holding call that gave Arizona a first down.
Zonovan “Bam” Knight picked up two yards on the ground. After a three-yard gain by Knight, the Cardinals again are facing third and long. Brisett scrambled and checked down to Wilson, who fought for seven yards and a first down.
After recovering a fumbled snap on first down, Brisett found backup tight end Elijah Higgins for a seven-yard gain to bring up yet another third and long. Dallas finally stopped Arizona as Brissett threw an incomplete pass out of bounds.
Kicker Chad Ryland attempted a 48-yard field goal and nailed it, despite it looking like he missed wide right.

8:24 p.m. — Dallas’ first play from scrimmage was a nine-yard run by running back Javonte Williams, and he followed it up with eight yards on the next play. After an incomplete pass, Prescott hit George Pickens for 16 yards and CeeDee Lamb for 15 yards.
Williams picked up 11 to get Dallas into the redzone for the first time in the game. The running back then lost a yard on first down, but Prescott got it back with a five-yard pass to tight end Jake Ferguson. Prescott missed his tight end again on third down, but Dallas decided to go for it on fourth and goal from the four-yard line. The quarterback got sacked.

7:18 p.m. — Part of the adversity that Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott has dealt with in his life is the loss of his mother Peggy. She passed away to her battle with cancer in 2013. Prescott took the field early to say a prayer for his mother, who passed away tragically 12 years ago to the day as the game against Arizona.

6:10 p.m. — Arizona quarterback Kyler Murray was expected to still “have a role” in Monday night’s game despite not starting. ESPN Insider Jeremy Fowler reported before the game, however, that that is unlikely and Murray isn’t expected to play at all. If he gets ruled out, Kedon Slovis would back up Jacoby Brissett.
Cardinals QB Kyler Murray (foot) is not expected to play tonight, per source. Head coach Jonathan Gannon said the team would wait until closer to game time to see if Murray could still have a role in the game but that is not the plan.
