Last Saturday in Starkville, No. 20 Texas quarterback Arch Manning authored the most spectacular chapter of his young career, orchestrating a furious 24-point fourth-quarter comeback against Mississippi State that culminated in a 45-38 overtime victory. The redshirt sophomore finished the night with a career-high 346 passing yards and four total touchdowns, finally showing the elite poise Longhorn faithful have long awaited.
Yet the celebration was immediately tempered by concern: Manning was placed in concussion protocol after a hard hit in overtime, leaving his status for Saturday’s critical home contest in doubt. Manning was removed from Texas’ injury report Friday night, however, and looks likely to play.
The No. 9 Vanderbilt Commodores, led by dual-threat quarterback Diego Pavia, arrive at Darrell K Royal–Texas Memorial Stadium with an astonishing 7-1 record and a defense that has stifled two consecutive ranked opponents, including a decisive 17-10 victory over Missouri last weekend.
This is no longer a trap game — it’s a brutal, high-stakes SEC showdown, pitting a suddenly vulnerable Texas against a surging Vanderbilt squad determined to prove its top-10 ranking is earned, with the Longhorns’ playoff aspirations potentially hinging on the health of their star signal-caller.

2:06 p.m.: Texas’ first drive of the second half ends the same way as the first of the first half: a touchdown.
This time, Manning hits Mosley V in the end zone on a slant for a six-yard touchdown. Mosley V now has three touchdowns in the last two weeks, and Manning has his third passing touchdown of the day.
Texas is up 31-10 and is in full control. The drive went 11 plays for 93 yards, the longest drive for the Longhorns in the SEC in two seasons.
2:02 p.m.: The Texas offense has another first down, with Manning finding Livingstone on the right sideline for a 10-yard completion.
Then, the next play, Manning once again delivers an accurate throw deep down the field. This time, it’s Moore Jr. again for 29 yards.
2:00 p.m.: Manning completes his first pass attempt, but it’s for short yardage, hitting Jack Endries in the flat for a few yards.
The next play on 3rd & 4, the quarterback delivers a strike to Mosley V over the middle of the field for 18 yards, and Texas keeps the chains moving.
1:59 p.m.: Texas gets a stop on the first Vanderbilt drive, causing the Commodores to punt back to the Longhorns.

1:54 p.m.: The second half is underway in Austin, with Vanderbilt getting the ball first.
Manning and the Texas offense has not had a real drive since the Wisner touchdown, which happened nearly an hour ago.

1:23 p.m.: Vanderbilt just ended the first half with a 13-play, 75-yard touchdown drive, ending in Eli Stowers reception in the end zone.
Though, Texas leads, 24-10, the first time the Longhorns have had a first half lead since the win against Kentucky.
Manning had about as productive of a first half as he’s had all season, throwing for 200 yards and two touchdowns. Texas needs to win this game to keep its playoff aspirations alive, and the team has looked motivated.
1:06 p.m.: Only 25 minutes into this game, Texas has three touchdowns.
After a few Manning passes get the Longhorns into the red zone, it’s Wisner who takes a halfback toss in for a four-yard touchdown.
Texas already has 185 passing yards.
1:05 p.m.: Manning has another long, easy, throw. This time it’s to Mosley on the right sideline for a first time.
1:03 p.m.: Steve Sarkisian has drawn up some successful screen plays already, and he does it again on third down.
Here, Manning hits Tre Wisner on a reverse screen and Wisner takes it upfield for 17 yards and Texas is once again knocking on the door.
12:57 p.m.: The Vanderbilt offense drives down the field, but only gets three points.
It’s 17-3 Longhorns with Manning and the offense getting the ball back.

12:41 p.m.: Manning has his second touchdown of the day.
After Texas gets into the red zone, the offense faced a third down. Manning rolled to his right and before pressure got to him, threw a bullet to C.J. Baxter in the end zone.

Texas is firing on all cylinders and it’s 17-0.
12:38 p.m.: On third down, Manning connects with Deandre Moore Jr. in front of the sticks, then the receiver makes a few defenders miss for a 14-yard game.
The next play, Manning hits one of his favorite targets in Parker Livingstone on a screen pass, then Livingstone takes it for a first down.
12:33 p.m.: The Texas defense gets a stop on Vanderbilt, and Manning and the offense get the ball back up 10-0.
12:18 p.m.: After a Vanderbilt fumble set up Texas in Commodore territory, the Longhorns are unable to score a touchdown.
But, Mason Shipley comes in and hits a 39-yard field goal to make it 10-0 Texas.

12:06 p.m.: The Texas offense picked up right where it left off last week.
Just like against Mississippi State, the first offensive play from scrimmage is a screen pass from Manning to Wingo, and it goes for huge yardage. Wingo evades defenders and takes it all the way to the end zone for a 75-yard touchdown, and Texas strikes first.
