St. Ignatius is one of the most storied high school football programs in Ohio.
But this season, the Wildcats went 1-9, and when the dust settled they were on the outside of the playoff picture looking in.
In Division I Region 1, 12 teams were in the playoff field, and St. Ignatius was the No. 13 seed.
That is, until John Marshall made a surprise decision.
Marshall was set to be the 11-seed and travel to play 6-seed Strongsville this week.
Instead, Marshall opted out of the playoffs. Their decision was known already by Friday night of Week 10, with it potentially coming for cost reasons.
That moved 12-seed Medina up to the No. 11 spot.
And into the No. 12 spot slots St. Ignatius.
The Wildcats will make the long trip to the Toledo area to take on 5-seed Perrysburg, which went 8-2 and was co-champion of the Northern Lakes League.

John Marshall makes the playoffs as the 11-seed, set to go on the road to play Strongsville.
All of a sudden John Marshall says nope, we’re good…we’ll let #12 Medina take our spot and let #13 St. Ignatius in, and we’ll take ourselves out of the playoffs…

St. Ignatius still plays a very difficult schedule but hasn’t maintained the form it had for so many years under legendary coach Chuck Kyle.
This is the Wildcats’ third consecutive regular season with just one win.
They’ll get to play in Week 11 anyway, though.
