Tonight is one of the most emotional nights of the competition on “Dancing with the Stars,” as the remaining couples take to the ballroom for Episode 5: Dedication Night. Each celebrity will perform an unlearned dance dedicated to the person who has been most influential in their life, with the emotional stakes — and the scoring pressure — at an all-time high.
For Olympic gold medalist Jordan Chiles and her partner, Ezra Sosa, the routine is intensely personal: they will perform a graceful Viennese Waltz set to John Mayer’s “Daughters,” dedicated to Chiles’ father, Timothy Chiles.
Chiles is aiming to break away from the mid-pack of the leaderboard after weeks of judges’ scrutiny that have often called for dance content outside of her signature gymnastics tricks. Adding to the emotional intensity, this week will mark the first time ever that the friends and family members being honored will join the contestants on the ballroom floor.
Eyes are on Chiles and Sosa tonight to see if they can conquer the technical difficulty, capture the hearts of the judges, and advance safely through “Dedication Night.”

One athlete has gone home so far, with former NBA star Baron Davis getting eliminated in Episode 2.

How does Dancing with the Stars scoring work?
The fate of every couple on “Dancing with the Stars” is determined by a 50/50 combination of the judges scores and audience support, giving viewers at home equal power to the judging panel.
Each week, the panel of judges — Derek Hough, Carrie Ann Inaba, and Bruno Tonioli — scores every couple on a scale of 1 to 10 per judge, totaling a maximum of 30 points. This total is then converted into a Judges’ Score Percentage by taking the couple’s score and dividing it by the total raw points awarded by the judges to all competing couples that night. For instance, if a couple receives 20 points, and the total of all judges’ scores given to every competing couple is 200, that couple is credited with 10% of the overall influence.
The audience vote is calculated as a Public Vote Percentage. This is determined by dividing the total number of votes a single couple receives by the aggregate votes cast for all couples that evening. This Public Vote Percentage is then directly added to the Judges’ Score Percentage. The couple with the lowest combined total percentage from these two categories is eliminated from the competition, highlighting why even a low score from the judges can be overcome by fan voting.
Viewers at home have a limited window of time — exclusively during the live broadcast in the Eastern (ET) and Central (CT) time zones — to cast their votes. Fans may cast up to 10 votes per couple and can spread their support across multiple couples.
How to vote for Dancing with the Stars
The audience can vote for “Dancing with the Stars” via the ABC website or text message.
Per the voting method, audience members can cast up to 10 votes per couple for maximum of 20 votes per celebrity each week.
Voting is only open during the live simulcast of the show in the Eastern (ET) and Central (CT) time zones. Voting usually opens at 8:00 p.m. ET and closes after the final dance of the night.
