When a K-Pop group reaches the end of their contracts, they either negotiate and re-sign with their company or move to other agencies. In some cases, the company will announce that the group has disbanded.
There are plenty of obstacles for groups that wish to continue, including fighting for their group name, like GOT7.

Boy group BOYFRIEND originally debuted in 2011 under Starship Entertainment. The group was the first to ever have twins debut in the same group, and earned a reliable fanbase between Korean and Japanese promotions.

In 2019, Starship announced that the group would disband, and they remained so for two years. For their 10th anniversary, the group reunited under the name BF and released “Ending Credit,” a track that seemed to imply the group would be no more.
This was not the case, as the group made a comeback as BF in late 2021, and continued to promote under the name primarily in Japan.

Just before member Youngmin‘s military discharge, the group returned to using the name BOYFRIEND on social media. After his release, the group announced a showcase tour and a new single album, titled Time Limit.
On February 13, “Time Limit” was released, marking the group return as six and under the BOYFRIEND name for the first time in over five years.
Fans have been happy to see the group return and are hopeful about the future!
Congrats to Boyfriend on their comeback!
