In the world of K-Pop, idol friendships are often a mystery as most interactions happen behind the scenes away from scrutiny. So, when an artist opens up about a bond with another, fans can’t help but get excited.
That’s exactly what happened when IVE’s Ahn Yujin recently shared the story of her growing friendship with aespa’s Karina.
During a guest appearance on the YouTube show Salon Drip, Yujin spilled some sweet details about how they hit it off after working together at SBS’s Gayo Daejeon 2024. The two leaders collaborated on a stage performance of Valerie Broussard’s “Killer,” and it turns out their connection started with a simple idea from Karina.
Our first meeting was when we filmed a challenge together. (Karina’s) company had suggested doing it with me… I even went to the salon on purpose, dressed neatly, and put in extra effort.

Yujin shared that she had planned to ask Karina if she could call her “unnie” and get her number during their first meeting, but she got so nervous she forgot to do either.
Since it was our first meeting, I was so focused on making a good impression — talking well, dancing well, and looking good — that I couldn’t do either.

Fortunately, after a while SBS‘s Gayo Daejeon team suggested the two stars collaborate on a stage, and while Yujin wanted to reach out directly, Karina beat her to it and managed to contact the IVE leader first.
The two now seem closer than ever, with Yujin sharing, “She always texts me after practice to say, ‘Great job.’ These days, she often asks if it’s okay to post certain photos on social media.”
Fans of both aespa and IVE are understandably thrilled to see this adorable friendship blossom and can’t wait to see more interactions between the talented leaders.
