Angel Reese has only played one season in the WNBA but is already one of the most criticized players in the league.
The hatred comes largely from people claiming she ‘stat-pads’ by missing layups and rebounding her own misses. Regardless of the truth behind these beliefs, a Philadelphia 76ers center admitted to participating in this shocking tactic.
Sixers big man Andre Drummond is viewed as one of the top rebounders of this generation, but his legacy took a toll with a recent admission.
“I asked one of my boys, I said, ‘Yo, who’s leading the NBA in rebounding right now?’ It was Dwight Howard, I think he averaged like 12.3. So I’m like, hmm, I’m currently averaging 8.9 as a rookie. I can beat that,” Drummond said on the Run Your Race podcast. “So after I realized how not sexy rebounding was, I said that’s it. I’m going to be the best rebounder to ever play this game.”
Later in the conversation, one of the podcast hosts asked Drummond, “Were there times you had missed shots on purpose to get the rebound?”
“Yeah,” Drummond admitted in a soft tone.
This led to the basketball community comparing Reese and Drummond for all the wrong reasons.
“Angel Reese will never beat the allegations now,” one user wrote.
“Angel Reese stole this dudes whole flow,” another commented.
Fans were not holding back, with one writing, “Wow! Sounds just like Angel Reese… only that Angel just really sucks at shooting the ball at the rim.”
If there’s one thing all are agreeing on, it’s Drummond should have revealed this after retirement. Not entering his second stint in Philadelphia.
