The Boston Red Sox are targeting Opening Day as the return for DH Masataka Yoshida, per Ian Browne. This comes after Yoshida had surgery on his right labrum back on October 3rd.
Yoshida was a decent player this year. But also succumbed to a few injuries. He only played in about two thirds of the season, and slashed .280/.349/.415/.765 with 21 doubles, 10 home runs and 56 RBI.
Yoshida only played DH this season as well, unlike last season where he played the outfield as well as DH. Getting injured at a position that isn’t labor intensive hurts his trade stock.
This is the second big injury Yoshida has gone through, after injuring his thumb last season. The Sox were looking to probably trade him this offseason, and this surgery definitely makes it harder.
