The San Diego Padres beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 10-2 in Game 2 of the National League Division Series. Despite the score, the game got heated between the two teams as well as between the Padres players and Dodgers fans.
The biggest story of the night was Dodgers fans throwing objects at Padres players on the field and in the bullpen. This led to a 20-minute delay. Throughout the night, Fernando Tatis Jr. was mocking Dodgers fans as well.
Tatis was seen gesturing fake tears towards Dodgers fans. He also exchanged words with fans while in the Padres dugout. Tatis hit two home runs in the contest.
Tatis was also plunked by Jack Flaherty in the contest, which led to some harsh comments from Manny Machado postgame.
“You try to hit our best hitter,” said Machado. “If you can’t get him out, don’t hit him. They got the best player in the game. We don’t go out there and try to hit Ohtani. We try to get him out.”
Machado and Flaherty got into a heated verbal exchange after Flaherty told Machado to sit down after a strikeout. Flaherty continued to chirp at Machado from the dugout. After the game, Flaherty spoke to reporters and accused Machado of throwing a ball into the Dodgers dugout.
Machado did not deny throwing the ball into the dugout after the game.
“I throw balls all the time into dugouts. Both dugouts,” he said. “They have bat boys, you throw the ball back in there.”
