Just when Cody Rhodes thought it was safe to start trusting people again, he found out the hard way that it’s not so much when he decides to trust someone, but rather who he decides to trust unconditionally. At WWE Bad Blood in Atlanta, Roman Reigns kept his promise and had Rhodes’ back, but it cost him dearly — not simply by The Rock a.k.a. “The Final Boss” reappearing to blow the roof off of the State Farm Arena, but by way of Kevin Owens.
Yes, The Rock returning to threaten Rhodes, Reigns and a now-returned Jimmy Uso was absolute cinema of the highest order, but while the Universe was still inside of the arena trying to catch their breath, Owens was outside doing something sinister.

The heel turn that Owens was long expected to deliver finally landed, but not on-air, and not in front of WWE cameras.

He put hands on Rhodes when he thought no one was watching, in the loading zone after the event was done and in the books.

This is master class storytelling by Paul “Triple H” Levesque seeing as a heel turn of this magnitude happening off-air is not only unheard of and risks it not getting the traction it deserves, but Triple H plotted the specific vantage point perfectly — knowing WWE fans would be standing there with their cameras pointed to catch a glimpse of Rhodes and other superstars as they boarded their buses.
What they instead got is a now-viral moment of Owens betraying Rhodes in a way he promised he never would, and that means business is about to pick up in a major way on SmackDown going forward.
And that is, again, not even considering what The Rock is planning to do; and where will Randy Orton fall in all of this???
Oh man …
