Unified middleweight king Janibek Alimkhanuly will defend his IBF title against loquacious New Zealander Andrei Mikhailovich at The Star in Sydney, Australia, on October 4. The 12-round bout, plus undercard action, will be broadcast by ESPN+.

Alimkhanuly (15-0, 10 KOs) is the best 160-pounder in the world today. A former amateur standout, the Kazakhstan-born lefty has only been taken the distance once in the past five years and is coming off a TKO 6 triumph over the previously unbeaten Vincenzo Gualtieri in a unification fight.
Mikhailovich (21-0, 13 KOs) is the IBF’s mandatory challenger. Largely unknown outside of New Zealand, the 27-year-old boxer-puncher is extremely confident of victory and has taken to threatening the champion during fight week. “I’m going to f—ing kill you,” Mikhailovich told Alimkhanuly at the final press conference.
The Sporting News will provide undercard results and a full report on a main event that is dripping with bad blood.
