aespa‘s Winter will be gracing the October cover of Cosmopolitan Korea. While her visuals remain uncontested, a snippet of her interview with the magazine has drawn significant attention online.
In the sneak peek from the interview, Winter talks about the glaring differences between her as the idol Winter and the normal human being, Kim Minjung. While in her professional role, she is very organized and prepared ahead of time; off-duty, she is a lot more spontaneous.
Winter also reflected on her strict work ethic, admitting that she has a perfectionist mindset. The singer also emphasized the importance of practicing regularly, calling it the responsibility of her role as a singer.
I never skip vocal and dance lessons. I practice a lot on my own as well. It’s stressful, but when I feel inadequate, I tell myself I can’t show any weakness and keep going until I succeed.
— Winter
The idol added that though, as an artist, she might get many opportunities to perform, there might be many audience members for whom seeing aespa live could be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. “So, we give our all as if every performance is our last. I never forget that I’m a singer,” Winter concluded.
While her statement reflected a strong sense of responsibility and dedication toward her job, it was not received very well by many netizens, who primarily complained about aespa lipsyncing during live performances.
- “But why do you lipsync?”
- “Winter is cool.”
- “It’s a little funny seeing a group that lipsyncs say all this.”
But many more came to Winter’s defense, arguing that aespa now mostly sings live and praised Winter for her hardworking attitude.
- “Everyone already knows she’s good, so does it really matter if it’s lip-syncing? It sounds the same anyway, haha!”
— “That’s what I’m saying.” - “Winter👍🏻👍🏻.”
- “It looks like they always sing live nowadays. Why is everyone behaving like this?”
- “Comments are just ridiculous, haha. Winter is already good, but it’s great to see her working hard!”
- “Haha, since she sings live well, there are a lot of salty people!”
- “It’s obvious who the commenters above are fans of, right? Haha!”
- “Everyone knows she’s talented anyway, haha!”
