The New England Patriots were handed a 23-20 loss by the Seattle Seahawks in overtime on Sunday afternoon at Gillette Stadium, but that doesn’t mean that everyone played poorly for the Patriots.
Tight end Hunter Henry earns Player of the Game honors for his performance in this matchup against Seattle. Henry was a safety blanket for quarterback Jacoby Brissett throughout the afternoon, catching eight of his 12 targets for 109 yards, helping the team drive the ball down the field and keeping the chains moving.
Henry set a career-high for receiving yards in a game, passing his previous high of 100 yards in a loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers during his time with the Los Angeles Chargers. He also tied a career-high for receptions in a game that was originally set in that same game.
The 29-year-old had been relatively quiet over the last two seasons, with the exception of the eight touchdowns, so it was good to see him revert back to the old days.
While this was great for him, New England needs to find ways to get their wide receivers involved more, as Brissett targeted just Ja’Lynn Polk three times and K.J. Osborn twice. Running the ball and passing to tight ends isn’t going to be a recipe for consistent success in the NFL in 2024.
