The Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees met for the third straight day on Saturday at Yankee Stadium, and Alex Cora’s squad earned a 7-1 victory.
Boston sent Brayan Bello to the mound to start Game 3 of this series, and he looked great, allowing one run on four hits and two walks over 5 1/3 despite not having strikeout stuff (two on the day).
Bailey Horn got the Red Sox out of the sixth inning, pitching a scoreless 2/3 of an inning. Josh Winckowski, rookie Zach Penrod and Greg Weissert finished with scoreless innings each.
Boston’s offense stepped up in this one after scoring just five runs in the first two games of the series. Masataka Yoshida (2-for-4) drove in three runs while Rafael Devers (1-for-2 with two walks) and Wilyer Abreu (1-for-4) drove in two runs apiece.
Trevor Story (3-for-4) was the only other Red Sox to record multiple hits.
This win brings Boston to 75-74 on the season and 40-34 away from Fenway Park. The two teams will meet again on Sunday for the finale with the Red Sox getting a chance to split.
