With the start of the Pittsburgh Steelers’ 2024 NFL season less than one week away, we’re taking an updated look at the team’s strength of schedule.
According to Warren Sharp of Sharp Football Analysis, who bases the strength of schedule on projected 2024 win totals by Vegas oddsmakers, the Steelers have the toughest slate in the NFL.
But the Steelers aren’t the only AFC North team to have a tough schedule, as the Cleveland Browns and Baltimore Ravens have the third- and fourth-toughest slates in the league, respectively. Meanwhile, the Cincinnati Bengals have the sixth-easiest.
The other, less effective way to calculate strength of schedule is based on 2023 win-loss records of Steelers 2024 opponents. On that front, the Steelers own the third-toughest slate in the NFL, with the combined 2023 winning percentage of Pittsburgh’s opponents coming in at .533.
The only teams with a tougher strength of schedule based on that method are both in the Steelers’ division, the Browns (.547) and the Ravens (.536). The Bengals (.502) are tied for the 16th-toughest slate.

Of Pittsburgh’s 14 2024 opponents, five of them — the Dallas Cowboys, Ravens, Browns, Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs — made the playoffs in 2023. Two of their upcoming opponents — the Indianapolis Colts and Bengals — also sported winning records last season.
The Steelers only play one of those playoff teams (Cowboys) in the first half of the year, while the contests against the Browns (twice), Eagles, Ravens (twice) and Chiefs all come in the second half, as do their two matchups with the Bengals, giving Pittsburgh a tough late-year slate.
The Steelers will start their 2024 campaign on the road on Sunday, Sept. 8, against the Atlanta Falcons. You can check out their full schedule below.
