It was a frightening scene Saturday afternoon in San Francisco’s Union Square, and a San Francisco 49ers rookie unfortunately got himself caught in the middle of it.
According to Gia Vang of NBC Bay Area, 49ers 2024 first-round pick Ricky Pearsall was shot in an attempted robbery. Vang reported that the suspect was in custody, and Pearsall was in stable condition.
Sal Castaneda of KTVU News in San Francisco reported that the suspect attempted to rob Pearsall of his Rolex watch.
San Francisco police reported that Pearsall was shot through the chest, according to Sean Cunningham of FOX 40. Police also reported there was a struggle for the gun, and the suspect also suffered a gunshot wound.
Pearsall was reportedly signing autographs earlier on Saturday near San Francisco’s Cow Palace, according to the San Jose Mercury News.
Pearsall’s 49ers teammate, star wide receiver Deebo Samuel, posted what appeared to be a positive update regarding Pearsall on X. Samuel wrote “He’s good. Thank God!!!!”
Pearsall, 23, was drafted 31st overall in the 2024 National Football League draft out of the University of Florida. He had previously missed the last 3 1/2 weeks of practice while dealing with a shoulder injury.
