These days in K-Pop, height is not usually a determining factor for inclusion in a group.
Several female idols have become known for their heights that don’t necessarily “fit in” with the heights of the other group members.
A female idol was once believed to have been kicked out of her group, not for any rule-breaking, but because of her height.
In 2012, GNG Production debuted a girl group called Tiny-G. As their name implied, all the group members were “tiny” at 160 cm or shorter.
The group saw moderate popularity through their first few releases, even performing an OST for a popular fantasy game. One of their most popular tracks, “MINIMANIMO,” still receives comments and views to this day.
However, Tiny-G would not remain active for long. In 2014, it was announced that member Myungji would leave the group to focus on her acting career.
Despite the announcement, many believed Myungji was removed for being “too tall.” Because their concept and name were centered around being small, this was an important thing for them to uphold, and it is said that Myungji, who was 15 at debut, continued to grow.
Myungji did not appear in any programs until she was announced to be participating in Idol School, the survival show that formed Fromis_9. She was eliminated from the program and ultimately ranked 27th overall.
Myungji made her on-screen acting debut under the name Joo Se Bin, in the 2019 series Class Of Lies. In 2020, she appeared in True Beauty as Jin Hee Jeong, a high school student who is the webmaster of the school’s online community.
The actress is currently signed to ANDMARQ and her most screen recent credit is the 2022 series The Empire while she appeared in a stage production in 2024. She is active on Instagram, however, where she shares photos and other updates.
Most interestingly, information places her height at 165 cm, which shows that she did grow since her debut!
