Around the world, an issue that sometimes pops up with actors appearing in series is their IRL age vs. the age they are supposed to play. Some actors can play characters much younger than they are for years, while others do not do a good job of convincing viewers of their on-screen age.
This Age-Defying, Popular Actress Has Played A High School Student In 3 Different Decades
Recently, a popular actor left netizens LOL-ing over his appearance as a high school student in a K-Drama.
On August 16, the first episodes of Black Out: Snow White Must Die aired. The series is based on a novel of the same name about a young man convicted of the murder of two women he was romantically connected to.
The K-Drama has changed a few aspects, with actor Byun Yo Han playing Ko Jung Woo, a 19-year-old high school student about to enter a prestigious medical school. Ko Jung Woo is convicted of the death of two of his classmates, though their bodies are never found.
Actors Ko Jun and Go Bo Gyeol also appear in the drama as a detective investigating the case and Jung Woo’s former classmate who has remained devoted to him, respectively.
The first episode sets the scene for the remainder of the drama, showing Ko Jung Woo’s arrest and other scenes. Most noticeably, rather than hiring another actor to play Ko Jung Woo in high school, Byun Yo Han plays the role at that age.
A post on a Korean forum discussing his appearance in the role has gone viral, with many netizens laughing at being unable to suspend their belief.
- “Feels like an April Fools’ event, lol.”
- “I saw it yesterday, and he really does look like a high schooler partying after college exams, lol. I think it’s right that the same actor plays the role since it spans 10 years starting from the third year of high school, lol.”
- “It’s not just in Korean dramas; foreign dramas do that too.”
- “I usually can just look past it. But it’s funny to be saying he actually looks young and like a real high schooler.”
