Recently, WEi’s Junseo received backlash for posting replies in Japanese on the fan community app Bubble. This blew up because it happened on an important Korean holiday.
“Gwangbokjeol” is a public holiday celebrated every year on August 15. It commemorates the liberation of Korea from Japanese rule in 1945.
On August 15, he replied to a fan asking what he would like to do when he visits Japan.
“Fan: Is there anything you want to do when you visit Japan next month?
Junseo: I’d like to eat monjayaki and yaki soba.
Fan: Although I’m younger than you, can I talk to you without honorifics during fan sign events?
Junseo: Of course!”
Although he could have answered in Korean, netizens wondered why he chose to answer in Japanese.
Not long after, Junseo posted an apology letter in the early hours of August 16 regarding his actions.
Hello, this is Junseo. I apologize to the fans and to everyone that was hurt by my carelessness. I used Japanese to reply through a fan community app on Korea’s meaningful liberation day. Currently, I have sent a request to the app to delete the reply. I will study harder in the areas that I lack in and make sure that something like this will not happen again. Once again, I would like to apologize to everyone.

Korean netizens were shocked that they were so careless for such an important holiday.
