Recently, model Hwang Se On received much criticism online for posting photos from a trip to Okinawa, Japan, with fellow models Jeong Ho Yeon and Kim Jin Kyung.
Netizens who sought out celebrities who traveled to Japan on Korea’s Liberation Day called them out for posting photos at an inappropriate time.
Previously, on August 13 and 14, Hwang posted various travel-related photos on Instagram from their trip to Japan.
However, as the posts began to receive more criticism, she posted an explanation on Instagram to clarify any confusion.
I’d like to clear up any misunderstanding, as many people have sent me DMs. I’ve been in Korea since this past Monday! Thanks for your concern as it is a sensitive subject. Yesterday, which was Liberation Day, I was busy working.
Korean netizens were frustrated with the trolls that used the holiday as an excuse to criticize celebrities.
- “They were just used as bait…”
- “Were they in Japan on Liberation Day? X Dd she post photos from Japan on Liberation Day? X”
- “It’s nice to spend Independence Day and Liberation Day in a meaningful way, but it’s not good to use it as a way to criticize others.”
- “Can we all just stop using this holiday to call out celebrities.”
- “I really hate people posting things without checking the facts first.”
- “What I don’t understand is what do these people get from criticizing these celebrities. An apology? What are you going to do with that?”
- “So ridiculous. She didn’t even post on Liberation Day.”
- “Crazy people.”
- “Please look into it first before posting.”
- “I really feel like Liberation Day is being used. The trolls are spending this day searching for people to criticize.”
- “Why are there so many people on the internet with so much time on their hands. Are they all jobless failures.”
- “They are really making them explain themselves…”
- “I wonder if those people that left malicious comments will even see this post.”
On the other hand, many other celebrities have been called out for “inappropriate” actions on Korea’s Liberation Day.
