Younger K-Pop idols have gotten creative in their ways of contacting each other in search of romance, according to Wonder Girls‘ Yubin!
On the 1MillionDanceStudio YouTube channel, dancers Lia Kim and Amy interview Yubin and 2NE1‘s Minzy for their program “Liality.” Kim recalled her history with each idol, remarking on how she taught Minzy as a trainee.
The topic of dating eventually came up with Kim talking about how she has only dated one person since she was in her 20s. When Kim asks the two idols about their 20s, each confirms that they did date, shocking her with their honesty.
Kim then asked if it was true that idols communicated by placing sticky notes on the top of vending machines at events where other idols were. While Yubin was unsure if this was true, it makes sense as many idols in earlier groups were not allowed cell phones and had to get creative to even talk to friends.
Yubin then says that these days, idols will simply use Airdrop to serve the same function. Airdrop is a service on iPhones that allows individuals in the same vicinity to share photos and other information without knowing each others’ phone numbers.
Yubin says idols will pass close enough to connect, then Airdrop things to each other, like phone numbers.
Kim and Amy were surprised by this information, with Minzy calling it “MZ (millenial/gen-z) dating.”
