BTS Suga‘s blood alcohol content was reportedly measured at 0.227%, over seven times Korea’s legal limit of 0.03%.
According to an exclusive report from Donga Ilbo, the Yongsan Police Station measured Suga’s blood alcohol content at 0.227% when they checked on him following his fall from an electric scooter. However, Suga had initially testified that he only had one glass of beer.
While the punishment for having a blood alcohol content over 0.08% is up to 2 years in prison or a fine of up to ₩10.0 million KRW (about $ 7,290 USD), having a blood alcohol content over 0.2% increases the potential punishment to a fine between ₩10.0 million KRW (about $ 7,290 USD) and ₩20.0 million KRW (about $ 14,600 USD) or a prison sentence between 2-5 years.
Back in June 2019, a revision was put into place that reduced the legal blood alcohol content limit from 0.05% to 0.03%. The threshholds for punishments are 0.03-0.08%, 0.08-0.20%, and over 0.2%.
The Yongsan Police Station has not yet made a decision on whether to revoke Suga’s license. If his license is revoked, Suga would be unable to reacquire his license for one year. HYBE has not yet commented on Donga Ilbo’s report.
