The New York Giants released their first unofficial depth chart Monday ahead of the preseason opener against the Detroit Lions.
Releasing the depth chart is a formality before every game. The word “unofficial” carries a lot of weight here.
Just because a player is listed at a certain spot on the depth chart doesn’t mean that’s their actual spot. It’s typically pretty close, but teams put their depth charts together in certain ways for various reasons.
The Giants and Lions are scheduled to square off Thursday night at 7:00 p.m. ET.
Here are some takeaways from the Giants’ first depth chart ahead of preseason Week 1:

- Meanwhile, rookie Dru Phillips is listed as the starting slot defender, which falls in line with what camp has shown thus far.
- Defensive tackle Ryder Anderson has gotten some first-team reps, and it seems he’s ahead of Jordan Phillips for that role behind Rakeem Nunez-Roches.
