A scene from LE SSERAFIM’s new documentary featuring HYBE founder Bang Si Hyuk has received widespread criticism online.
On July 29, KST, HYBE released the five-part docu-series about LE SSERAFIM, following the members’ current struggles and growth. In one of the episodes, Yunjin was seen opening up to Bang Si Hyuk about facing a creative rut. She particularly mentioned feeling troubled by the public criticism over her debut teaser, in which she had said she wanted to change the idol industry.
“I want to change the idol industry.”

During the conversation, Yunjin mentioned that she often faces questions from the public about how much she has been able to deliver on that promise, and as time passes, she feels more responsible for what she had claimed in that clip.
People say things like, ‘So what have you changed?’ ‘How are you gonna make changes by yourself?’ Things like that. At the beginning, I didn’t really pay attention to it. But as time passes, I feel more responsible about what I said. So, I feel like I should do more and wonder if I’m doing enough.
— Yunjin
In response to Yunjin’s concern, Bang told her to focus on her songwriting “without thinking about what the company and the public think.”
Netizens seem to have taken issue with Bang’s statement as they feel that HYBE should take public opinion and criticism more into account. Many also voiced their disapproval of documentaries that they felt HYBE pushed out to manipulate public sentiments.
- “Bang Si Hyuk should care more about what the public thinks. I’m rooting for Huh Yunjin nonetheless, though.”
- “Why shouldn’t they pay attention to public opinion…? His logic is strange.”
- “Yeah, right. The girls don’t need to pay attention to that…But he does, LOL.”
- “Did he really make a video thinking this would work?”
- “HYBE should actually be more mindful. I wish they’d at least be as competent as a regular company. To all the artists, hwaiting!”
- “Si Hyuk, you SHOULD care.”
- “This is really funny, LOL.”
- “Their (lack of) skills might be a factor in all the criticism, but HYBE also seems to be a large part of it… The concepts and songs, as well as the way they always go for the underdog-rising vibe, are really off-putting to me. Especially these kinds of documentaries or media play… it’s just terrible. And HYBE’s Bang Si Hyuk should absolutely be more mindful of public opinion. Every time I see him using his artists as a shield, it makes me really dislike the company itself.”
- “He should pay attention.”
- “It’s a documentary where you can see LE SSERAFIM members work hard and stand up for themselves despite their fears. It shows the highs and lows of being an idol. I wish people wouldn’t criticize it without even watching it ㅠㅠ.”
- “This is exactly why people say you need to be around good adults to guide you, but [LE SSERAFIM] is stuck there…”
- “These strange marketing tactics only build hate…”
- “Oh… Just practice instead of crying. Is she hoping for sympathy because she’s not skilled enough?
