Harry Maguire has certainly faced his critics since signing from Leicester in 2019 in a whopping £80million ($ 102m) deal, a record fee for a defender.
Last summer, the England international found himself at a crossroads in his Manchester United career. The defender, who had worn the captain’s armband, was suddenly stripped of his leadership role and deemed expendable by manager Erik ten Hag. With a potential move to West Ham United on the cards, it seemed like the end of the road for Maguire at Old Trafford.
However, fate had other plans. The proposed transfer to West Ham fell through at the eleventh hour, leaving Maguire no choice but to stay put. Rather than sulk or throw in the towel, the English center-back rolled up his sleeves and set out to prove his worth to Ten Hag and the United faithful.
Maguire’s hard work paid off as he gradually regained his place in the starting lineup. Injuries opened the door, and Maguire seized the opportunity with both hands, delivering solid defensive performances that earned him a spot in Ten Hag’s plans.
With the arrival of Leny Yoro from Lille and persistent rumors linking United to Jarrad Branthwaite and Matthijs de Ligt, Maguire’s future at the club has once again come under the microscope.

Harry Maguire staying at Man Utd
Recent reports suggesting that Manchester United might part ways with Harry Maguire this transfer window have been quashed.
Senior Sky Sports journalist Melissa Reddy confirmed during her appearance on The United Stand YouTube channel that Maguire will not be leaving the club.
Reddy stated: “One person we know won’t be leaving is Harry Maguire. He told us on Sky that he had talks with the club.
“They told him he’s part of the future, they’re keen for him to stay.
“They like how he’s conducted himself because he had a really tough period and honestly the character he’s got to come through that and for parts of the season he was their best player.”
