Preseason odds aren’t always worth too much, but they are still worthy of notice. This year, that means that a quintet of potential Texas stars are garnering extra attention as the season dawns.
As noted by On3 Sports’ Inside Texas, five different Longhorns are listed among the preseason favorites for different end of season awards when those odds were released by BetOnline.ag on Monday. Here are the Texas players, their respective odds, and the current money line favorites for each award:
- Quinn Ewers: Davey O’Brien Award (best quarterback), 7-to-1; Dillon Gabriel, Oregon
- CJ Baxter: Doak Walker Award (best running back), 20-to-1; Ollie Gordon II, Oklahoma State
- Isaiah Bond: Fred Biletnikoff Award (best wide receiver), 15-to-1; Luther Burden, Missouri
- Silas Bolden; Fred Biletnikoff Award (best wide receiver), 88-to-1; Luther Burden, Missouri
- Amari Niblack; John Mackey Award (best tight end), 45-to-1; Colston Loveland, Michigan
It’s obviously far too early to get too excited or pessimistic about any of these Longhorns’ changes, but the fact that so many are already on watch lists can only be an indication of positive momentum heading into a critical season for Steve Sarkisian and the ‘Horns.
