Popular actors from China are under fire for ripping off fans.
Dylan Wang, famous for his roles in Meteor Garden (2018), Love Between Fairy and Devil (2022) and Only for Love (2023), is one of the celebrities netizens have a bone to pick with.
He opened a pop-up bakery called D.Desirable in Anfu Road, Shanghai, on April 20. Though it attracted a multitude of excited fans from around the country, many were soon dismayed upon viewing the prices.
They found out that he was charging 88 yuan (around 12 USD) for simple flavored bread, around double the price of other similar ones.
Besides Dylan Wang, actor Bai Jing Ting from Reset (2022) also disappointed buyers with his pastry business. He sold a pair of small cookies in a plain looking plastic wrap for 21 yuan (3 USD). Netizens commented the likes of, “I thought it was a biscuit for hamsters.”
Fans of Dylan Wang in particular have since come to his defense. They countered that “The price is clearly stated, and no one is forced to buy” the goods that will only be on sale until the end of August.
They also added that the high costs are justified as customers are also given gift bags with their purchases.
