SEVENTEEN‘s Woozi has released a statement in response to a controversial BBC article that claimed the group used AI-generated lyrics in their songs.
On July 10, BBC released an article entitled, “Will K-pop’s AI experiment pay off?” It speculated about the involvement of AI in the creation of SEVENTEEN’s 2024 song “MAESTRO.” The article mentioned that the music video features an AI-generated scene and suggested that the album might include AI-generated lyrics.
Fans quickly reacted, claiming the journalist had twisted Woozi’s words. They highlighted that Woozi’s actual statement was that he is always thinking of how to maintain the group’s identity in the midst of quickly evolving technology.
Of course I’ve tried and practiced writing songs and producing using AI. Rather than complaining about advancements in new technology, I feel (I/artists) need to advance along with it. I’ve tried to look for negatives and positives of using AI. I think I’m always thinking of ways to keep our unique identity in the face of fast-changing technology.
— Woozi
Fans took to social media to express their frustration, pointing out that Woozi’s decade-long experience and his extensive list of self-produced songs are evidence of his integrity.
every tongue that rises against woozi’s genius brain will fall because he has 10 years worth of material to solidify his legacy as a wonderful producer, composer, lyricist and artist. this was him just having fun and playing around and still creating amazing tunes. pic.twitter.com/GUS33D6uc1
