It’s safe to say the Cleveland Browns haven’t gotten what they paid for from quarterback Deshaun Watson.
Since trading three first-round picks, two fourth-round picks, and a third-round pick to the Houston Texans in exchange for Watson, he has started just 12 games for the Browns in two seasons. Granted, he missed 11 games due to suspension, but he has failed to look like the quarterback Cleveland thought they were getting. The Clemson product has thrown 14 touchdowns to nine interceptions and is completing less than 60 percent of his passes. However, according to Evan Massey of Browns Digest, at least one NFL scout expects that to change in 2024.
“When Cleveland acquired Deshaun (Watson), he gave promise of superstar production,” the scout told Massey. “It hasn’t gone well yet, but that success is coming in 2024. He has never been so locked in and motivated. I think this is the season that the Browns feel really good about the king’s ransom they traded to get him.”
The Browns went 11-6 in 2023 and earned a wildcard berth under the leadership of Joe Flacco, who took over at the beginning of December. And even if they take a step back because of Watson not playing at an adequate level, the Browns are tied to him long-term because of his fully-guaranteed $ 230 million contract.
