In the modern NFL you can never have too many pass rushers on your roster. It seems Texans general manager Nick Caserio has taken that idea to heart this year. Despite already having one of the top edge rusher units around the league, Houston has added yet another weapon to the front end of their defense.
According to a report by Aaron Wilson, the Texans have re-signed long-time veteran defensive end Jerry Hughes.
#Texans re-signed veteran defensive end Jerry Hughes, a Sugar Land native who had three sacks last season after recording nine sacks and 10 quarterback hits two seasons ago. More @KPRC2 https://t.co/yGuTDBFR26 https://t.co/iAy9f4mZdn

Hughes played his college ball at TCU and then was taken in the first round of the 2010 NFL draft by the division rival Colts. After three seasons in Indianapolis he moved onto Buffalo, where he spent the next nine years of his career. Hughes signed with the Texans prior to the 2022 season. All together, Hughes has appeared in 218 regular season games, totaling 70 sacks, 142 quarterback hits and 96 tackles for a loss. Since joining Houston he has 12 sacks in 34 games, but he only started twice last year.
Well past his prime but still effective, Hughes should project as the No. 4 option on Houston’s depth chart at this spot, beneath Danielle Hunter, Will Anderson Jr. and Denico Autry. Terms of the new deal have not yet been reported.
