The Boston Red Sox entered Wednesday night’s game against the Miami Marlins at LoanDepot Park with a chance to earn a series win in the middle game, and they did just that while earning a 7-2 victory.
Boston’s arms were strong in this game, starting with Brayan Bello. Bello, who had his start pushed back due to struggles went 6 2/3 innings giving up just one run on seven hits and one walk while striking out seven. He still had traffic on the bases, but he was able to wiggle out of tough situations repeatedly.
Brendan Bernadino entered the game to get the final out of the seventh inning. Chris Martin followed with a scoreless inning, and Greg Weissert allowed just one run in the final frame after giving up a leadoff triple.
The Red Sox’s offense wasn’t overly impressive. They recorded 12 total hits but also struck out 11 times. Their RBIs came from Ceddanne Rafaela (2-for-5) Rafael Devers (2-for-4 with a triple and a walk) and Masataka Yoshida (2-for-4 with a walk). Tyler O’Neill (2-for-4 with a walk) and Connor Wong (2-for-5) also had multi-hit games.
This win improves Boston’s record to 46-39 overall and 26-16 on the road. These two teams will meet again on Thursday afternoon for the series finale, and if the Red Sox win, they’ll complete the series sweep.
