These days, it’s pretty much a given that nearly all pictures of K-Pop idols that are shared by their companies or by fansites are edited in one way or another. Whether it’s to hide imperfections or includes more drastic changes like lightening skin tone or tweaking an idol’s features, you can be assured that most pictures of K-Pop idols that make them seem otherworldly beautiful are not an exact portrayal of what they look like in real life.
That isn’t to say that they’re not stunning to begin with, because they usually are, and the editing is usually pretty unnecessary. That’s why, when unedited or less edited pictures of K-Pop idols make their way onto the internet, it’s usually a breath of fresh air for fans!
But that wasn’t the case when a (G)I-DLE fansite uploaded pictures of Shuhua taken from a recent fansign event. It’s unclear if they are edited at all or not, but apparently they’re not edited as much as many Chinese fans have come to expect.
This Chinese fanbase accused the fansite of not editing Shuhua and therefore, contradictorily, “not accurately representing” the idol’s appearance. Some even went so far as to accuse the fansite of being an anti-fan for uploading the pictures.
Given that these same fans often praise Shuhua for her natural beauty in “unedited” pictures that in reality are edited to enhance certain features, it’s extremely confusing to see them slam someone for posting actual unedited pictures of the (G)I-DLE member. She looks gorgeous either way!
The fansite in question ended up deleting the pictures after receiving so much backlash. Fortunately, some other fans have come to their defense, saying that Shuhua still looks great in the unedited pictures and that there’s no reason for the fansite to have gotten so much criticism.
