The Chicago Bears have had a great offseason so far and should be much improved heading into the 2024 season.
Chicago has greatly improved its offense but more depth always could be nice. The Bears acquired superstar receiver Keenan Allen in a trade with the Los Angeles Chargers, signed Pro Bowl running back D’Andre Swift, drafted receiver Rome Odunze in the first round of the 2024 National Football League Draft, and also nabbed young phenom Caleb Williams to take over the quarterback spot.
Although the offense seems to be in a good spot, it could make sense to add even more depth at receiver. One player who could make some sense is New England Patriots receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster. Bleacher Report’s Alex Ballentine put together a list of teams that could be sellers and possible candidates to be moved and mentioned Smith-Schuster with the Patriots.
“The New England Patriots might have found their quarterback of the future in Drake Maye, but there’s still way too many questions left on the roster,” Ballentine said. “They also have to upgrade the weaponry around Maye. Demario Douglas was their best receiver last season. They drafted Ja’Lynn Polk and Javon Baker.
“The rookie duo should help, but it still leaves the Patriots group of pass-catchers well behind league average…”JuJu Smith-Schuster was not productive (29 receptions, 260 yards, and one touchdown) in his first season with the Patriots. He could still be valuable to another team if he doesn’t have early chemistry with Maye. Potential Trade Candidates: Edge Matthew Judon, WR JuJu Smith-Schuster, (Defensive Tackle) Davon Godchaux.”
Smith-Schuster had a rough season with New England but said he is healthy now heading into the 2024 campaign. When he has been healthy, he has been a productive receiver. He likely wouldn’t cost much at all right now in a trade and could help out of the slot for Chicago while adding more depth.
