Spain face Georgia in the Round of 16 at Euro 2024 knowing they must beware a team riding the crest of a wave.
In their first-ever European Championship finals appearance, Georgia defeated Group F winners Portugal 2-0 on Matchday 3 to secure their place in the knockout phase. If they can somehow upset another of the pre-tournament favourites at this stage, it would rank as one of the country’s finest sporting achievements.
Spain were highly impressive as they won all three of their Group B games — against Croatia, Italy and Albania — without conceding a goal. Luis de la Fuente’s team have looked imperious up until now and will take some stopping.

Spain vs. Georgia lineups, team news, starting 11
After a host of changes against Albania, Spain are set to field a more familiar lineup against Georgia. Manchester City midfielder Rodri will return after serving a one-match ban, strengthening the team’s core. Apart from fitness tests for Nacho, who recently departed from Real Madrid, and Real Betis forward Ayoze Perez, no new injuries have been reported.
Playmaker Dani Olmo, who shone in his first Euro 2024 start by assisting Ferran Torres‘ goal, is not expected to start. Instead, young talents Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams are likely to support captain Alvaro Morata in the attack.
Spain projected starting lineup (4-3-3): Simon (GK) — Carvajal, Le Normand, Laporte, Cucurella — Pedri, Rodri, Ruiz — Lamine Yamal, Morata, Williams.
Spain subs (max 15): Matchday squad released one hour prior to kickoff

However, Solomon Kvirkvelia might join the backline. Coach Willy Sagnol is expected to use a 5-3-2 formation, featuring Napoli’s Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and top scorer Georges Mikautadze up front.
