During a recent interview with Na PD, Youngji shared the behind-the-scenes story behind the iconic scene. It turns out that the kiss was 100% scripted. Her reaction on the other hand, was very much real. The scene was filmed with the two of them by the beach, and the crew was standing off at a distance. Through a megaphone, the director gave them the cue to kiss. In order to help ease the mood, D.O. kept talking to Youngji, asking her various things, while the director began to count down to the kiss. As he counted down, D.O. didn’t stop talking, even when the director reached the mark. As a result, Youngji was greatly confused and taken by surprise when D.O. kissed her in the midst of their conversation!

But the scene came out so well because D.O. was so professional. I’m not sure how to explain it, but anyway, we were at the edge of the beach like that, while the staff and director were all at the back. The director was counting down like ‘3, 2, 1’ through a megaphone. This was the first time I was meeting D.O. so he said he would try to do some icebreaking by talking to me. This is what’s heart-fluttering. He kept talking to me, asking what I do normally, if I read, stuff like that. Then from the back, the director was counting down. I couldn’t hear anything, be it the director, or what D.O. was saying. I remember the director saying ‘3, 2, 1,’ but D.O. didn’t stop talking. That’s how the scene ended up like that. He was really smart about it. After we filmed it, I thought that I needed to do this to become a professional like him. You really can’t tell if this was a planned shot or anything.
